The Whanganui Salon 2023 - Humanity and Earth
We are delighted to present the results of the 2023 Salon - the third in the series since the Salon was resurrected in 2019. We have seen steady growth in the Salon again with 469 entries from 76 photographers spread across New Zealand. The Salon is now established as a biennial boutique Salon in the New Zealand photography community. We introduced a new Category this year - Aotearoa New Zealand Heritage - which brought a new dimension to the Salon, alongside the carry over categories - Living in a Changing World and Humanity and the Natural World. Our thanks to our judges - Simon Woolf, Gail Stent and David Oliver - who have done a great job in selecting photographically strong images that resonate with these themes, often conveying a powerful message. This continues to set the Whanganui Salon apart from other Salons in New Zealand. Only 25% of images entered gained an award of Acceptance or better - well done to the photographers. All these images are shown below . Many fine images missed out and we are grateful to all entrants for your support of the Salon.
Congratulations to the three Category Winners - Helen McLeod, John Helsdon and Margaret Irving - on their fabulous images and especially to Margaret for taking out the Whanganui Salon Vonnie Cave Gold Medal with an image that I'm sure Vonnie would have enjoyed immensely. As well as the medal, Margaret received a $1000 gift voucher from our main sponsor Progear Photographic and all three Category Winners received a matted print of their image from Print Art and a $100 Lab Services Voucher from Wellington Photographic Supplies. All awardees also received certificates donated by Whanganui Photo and Print. Many thanks to our sponsors for their generous support - please support them next time you are contemplating photographic purchases.
The full list of awardees for each category can be found in the files immediately below, while all the images are displayed in the following galleries. At the bottom of the page you can access a link to the AV presentation of results - enjoy!
The Whanganui Salon is a biennial salon - the next running of the Whanganui Salon will be in 2025 - see you then.
